WoW Lockpicking Guide for Rogues
If you're reading this, you're probably a rogue who has neglected their lockpicking skill and now hasn't a clue how to level it quickly. If your bank is starting to fill up with all the lockboxes you sent in hopes that you'll level your lockpicking high enough in order to actually open them, then now might be a good time to start leveling it.
Leveling lockpicking isn't extremely difficult; it can just be a little bit time consuming. It's not easy as bad as leveling a craft, but you'll still spend a fair amount of time sending shouts near the bank looking to open lockboxes for free. However, you can avoid that, for the most part, by just following this guide.
Once you get above level 16, pick up a glyph of lockpicking because it makes it a lot faster. The glyph gives you a 100% reduction in cast time on lockpicking, which is awesome if you're going to be opening a lot of boxes.
Levels 1-100, I'd suggest going to Barrens and heading out to the ship near Ratchet. It's loaded with Buccaneer's Strongboxes that respawn pretty quickly. You can just grind through these to hit 100 and move on to Zoram Strand. All over the beach, you'll find Waterlogged Footlockers that you can use to skill up to 150.
The next 20 levels can be a pain to do and lead you kind of out of the way, but head over to Durnholde Keep in Hillsbrad Foothills and pick Battered Footlockers all the way up to 170. Then, jump a flight path to Badlands and head to the Angor Fortress. These mobs have two types of boxes, and one you cannot open until you get to 175. But, you can stay here all the way up to 225, which is pretty nice.
225 to 300 lockpicking splits you between two places. First, head over to Searing Gorge, which is great because if you're already in Badlands it's not too far away. Dented Footlockers turn green at 250 or 275 (same name, but for some reason others will give you good skill ups), and after that you'll want to head out to Eastern Plaguelands. Start getting into a habit of pick pocketing humanoids. They drop junkboxes that give skill ups too. Tyr's Hand is the best place to go in EPL, just do circuits of that place picking boxes and pockets up to level 300.
Levels 300 through 385 are a lot slower than the rest. Head out to Zangarmarsh and find the Wicker Chests. Run through this area, opening all of those, and pick pocketing the mobs for Strong Junkboxes before moving onto Nagrand at 325. At the bottom right of Nagrand, there are Dented Footlockers that can skill you up to 385, after which you'll need to head out to Northrend.
Northrend has only one place left to go: Icecrown. Head out to the far right side of Icecrown and run around picking Scarlet Onslaught Trunks. It's the best way to get to 400, because you can pickpocket mobs nearby to get reinforced junkboxes for skill and greens too.
